I recently watched two different videos on how to make Cowboy Coffee. They both involved heating up a stove with firewood. One included an entire egg and the shells. They both made “smooth coffee” according to the video.
I don’t know about all that but I do know after personally selling coffee to the public for the last 5 years that there are a variety of ways that people enjoy their coffee and will swear that it’s the best way to do it.
The most common is the old fashioned drip machine. Which really isn’t that old fashioned since I don’t believe they really made it to the public until the seventies. Before that most people used a percolator and some people still do and swear by it. I’ve got a percolator as well and occasionally I’ll brew up some coffee just to hear that sound and smell the coffee. Unfortunately, it’s not really my cup of tea for brewing coffee but I can get through a couple of cups, usually with a bit of cream.
Another popular method is the French Press. This is a great way to have a cup of coffee but the same coffee will taste a bit different in all three methods.
Espresso machine. Very few people I sell coffee to have an espresso machine but the ones that do consistently purchase my coffee which I’m very grateful for. I too, enjoy an espresso every morning. Often dosed with a bit of water to make an Americano.
Keurig machine. Many that I sell coffee to have a Keurig and they have the adaptor to make their own pod and once again, I have some consistent customers who use this method.
Very few customers use the pour over method which may require a bit more work and a few more machines. I mainly drank pour overs up until about a year ago when I purchased my first espresso machine.
I use a Barista Express Impress to make my coffee every morning and I do swear by it, the perfect cup.
When I sell coffee, often the customers request that it be ground. I have a grinder and I always ask their brewing method before grinding. Each method will require a different grind which will affect the taste of the coffee. From a coarse grind to a very fine Turkish grind, I can customize not only the origin and roast level but also the grind to best fit the brewing method.
Coarse Grind
Percolator, French Press
Medium Grind
Pour over, drip machine
Fine Grind
Espresso, pour over, drip machine
Extra Fine/Turkish
Espresso, Kuerig machine
I hope this helps or maybe clarifies a few things if you’re looking to change up your brewing method. Enjoy your coffee however you decide to make it. I hope you give my coffee a try.
